Who Benefits When We Are Divided

When we are divided, those who often seek to exploit our differences benefit most. Divisive rhetoric and polarization can manipulate public opinion, consolidate power, and advance narrow interests. Politicians may exploit divisions to rally support from their base, deflect attention from pressing issues, or sow distrust in democratic institutions. Similarly, external actors may exploit social divisions to undermine cohesion and stability for geopolitical gain. Ultimately, division weakens collective efforts for progress and undermines the common good, leaving us vulnerable to manipulation and exploitation.

So we must ask ourselves who is dividing us, why, and what I am doing to avoid being manipulated and becoming part of the problem—or, as some might say, a "useful idiot."
