Lots of actors, good and bad, have an axe to grind. Many deal in misinformation and disinformation to manipulate us. Work to be objective and seek additional points of view.

Generally speaking, the old adage of not trusting someone who says you can only believe them is a good first step. A great question to ask when someone tells you something they want you to believe is simply, "How do you know that?" If they say they have many theories but no evidence, that should be a red flag.
